U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, who were arrested through a U.S. military operation, are being transported to New York.

In a media interview on the 3rd, President Trump said, “They were indicted in New York, so they will go to New York,” and said that the Maduro couple boarded a U.S. ship for this purpose.

President Trump introduced the ship carrying President Maduro as ‘Iwo Jima’ (an amphibious assault ship operated by the U.S. Marine Corps).

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi posted on social media that day, saying, “Nicolas Maduro and his wife are indicted in federal court in the Southern District of New York on charges of conspiring to commit narco-terrorism and import cocaine against the United States, and conspiring to possess machine guns and lethal weapons.”

President Trump said he watched the operation at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, where his private residence is located, and said, “It was truly amazing. What these guys did was truly amazing. No one else could have done this.”

President Trump said that no Americans were killed in this military operation.

When asked whether he would support Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado after President Maduro’s ouster, President Trump avoided a direct answer, but said, “We will be very much involved in that (Venezuela‘s future).”

Meanwhile, it was reported that on this day, the United States deployed the “Delta Force,” the U.S. military’s elite special forces, and arrested Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife in about three hours.

Delta Force is considered a core force of the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), along with the Navy SEALs, famous for eliminating Osama Bin Laden. It is also known as the unit that led the secret operation that killed former Islamic State (IS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in 2019.

President Trump plans to hold a press conference at Mar-a-Lago Resort at 11 a.m. on the 3rd (1 a.m. on the 4th, Korean time) and reveal the specific progress of the operation.
