US President Donald Trump has publicly defended his management’s decision to restrict foreign students from enrolling at Harvard University. This move, which Harvard has denounced as unlawful, was temporarily blocked by a judge.

In a post on his social media platform, Trump questioned why Harvard does not disclose that nearly 31% of its student body comes from foreign countries, some of which he described as “not at all friendly towards the United states,” and suggested they “pay nothing” for their education.

“We want to know who these foreign students are,a reasonable request as we give Harvard billions of dollars, but Harvard is not realy transparent,” he stated, urging the university to cease requesting federal funding.

Last Thursday, Secretary of Internal Security Kristi Noem announced the revocation of the regulation allowing Harvard to admit international students. Tho, a judge swiftly suspended this measure after the university filed a complaint in the Federal Massachusetts court early Friday morning.

the Trump administration has criticized Harvard for allegedly resisting Washington’s oversight of its admissions and recruitment processes. They also accuse the university of harboring anti-Semitism, promoting excessively progressive ideologies, and maintaining connections with the Chinese Communist party.

Previously, the US government had cut over two billion dollars in university grants, leading to the termination of certain research initiatives.

According to its official website, Harvard, which is consistently ranked among the world’s top universities and boasts 162 Nobel laureates, currently hosts approximately 6,700 “international students,” representing 27% of its total student population. These students pay tens of thousands of dollars annually in tuition fees.

Harvard stands as the wealthiest university in the United States, possessing an endowment fund valued at $53.2 billion as of 2024.
