Truck Driver Fined Thousands for Eating Lunch While Driving
A truck driver in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic was
recently fined thousands of crowns for eating lunch while driving. The
incident was caught on camera by a special police vehicle, an Iveco Daily,
equipped wiht cameras to monitor drivers.
During a six-hour event, police checked over a hundred vehicles and found
88 cases of law violations. Almost half of the drivers were fined for not
paying attention to driving, while others were cited for lane violations,
overtaking illegally, or incorrect driving. The total fines amounted to
almost two hundred thousand crowns.
The most serious offense involved a 37-year-old truck driver who was found
to be under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol level of almost
three per mille. He will now face charges for driving under the influence.
The “food truck” incident was particularly noteworthy. The driver was seen
eating lunch directly from a plate while behind the wheel.As a result, he
received a hefty fine, comparable to the cost of a lunch at the upscale
Alcron restaurant.
Police have indicated that similar events will likely be repeated in the
future.
