Trinidad and Tobago put its Army on “high alert” on Friday (10/31/2025) and called for the troops to return to their barracks, according to a message released by the security forces to which the press had access.
The alert occurs in the midst of the United States military deployment in the Caribbean against drug trafficking, which Venezuela considers a “threat” of a “regime change.”
“High Alert: With immediate effect, the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Forces (TTDF) are at ALERT LEVEL ONE. All members are required to report to their respective bases,” reads the message sent by the military to all officers. The police canceled “all permits”, according to messages seen by the AFP agency and local media.
For its part, the Efe agency reported that senior commanders held closed-door meetings for several hours this Friday, while the return of all soldiers to their bases was ordered.
According to a senior TTDF officer, the alert is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring full operationality in the face of uncertainty in the regional security environment.
Trinidad and Tobago, which at its closest point is 11 kilometers from Venezuela, has strengthened its rapprochement with the United States within the framework of the military deployment ordered by Donald Trump in the Caribbean Sea.
Two days ago, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro called on the people of Trinidad and Tobago to prevent the US from “starting a war in the Caribbean,” after the island country received a destroyer from the US Navy.
Today, Venezuela’s Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, warned that its neighboring countries are the ones that would suffer “the most regrettable consequences of an intervention” by the United States.
