Travel Writer Deirdre Mullins Unveils a Relaxing Day at Aqua Sauna Forest Spa in Longford, Ireland
Escape the daily grind with a day at Aqua Sauna Forest Spa, nestled in the heart of Longford Forest. Situated just 90 minutes from Dublin, this haven of heat and steam offers a rejuvenating experience anyone can enjoy.
Tanning through a variety of heat experiences—ranging from a Nordic sauna to a salt steam room—my friend Harry and I explored every corner of the facility. Each thermal room offered its unique ambiance, but the lava sauna was standout. Surrounded by warm wooden benches and the tranquil recordings of a jungle, I felt like I was on a tropical escape.
Other highlights included the ice cave, which provided a refreshing contrast, and the forest rain walk, a sensory pleasure culminating in a rainforest shower. Despite its popularity on a Saturday, the spa felt never overrun, ensuring a private, serene environment.

The outdoor amenities were equally appealing, especially in the crisp winter air. A warm outdoor pool and hot tubs made for the perfect transition from the steamy thermal rooms to the chilly outdoors. The numerous relaxation zones and zero wait for facilities rounded out the exceptional service.
Further enhancing the spa experience, Aqua Sana offered various wellness sessions, including a sleep class. Guided through relaxation techniques by a skilled therapist, I found myself nodding off into a peaceful sleep. Another standout service was the [comfort zone] Himalayan salt back, face, and scalp massage. Molly, the therapist, was fantastic at relieving tense muscles with her expert touch and the soothing aromatherapy-infused [comfort zone] products.

While my experience was overwhelmingly positive, there were minor areas for improvement. The food at Vitalé Café Bar, primarily pasta and paninis, could use a few healthier, protein-rich options to cater to guests seeking a full meal after a workout. However, the selection of cocktails and the hot chocolate were delightful treats.
Was the ?89 for a Recharging Spa Day worth it? Absolutely. For ?189, guests receive a 50-minute treatment, access to all thermal experiences, outdoor pools, relaxation spaces, lunch, and a glass of prosecco. This extensive offering makes for an excellent spa day. I would return without a doubt, and perhaps make Harry stay the entire day this time around.
