Brescia – Daily transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) of the precuneus improved the cognitive abilities of people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease compared to sham therapy in a randomized study. The results of the study were published in JAMA Network Open (2025; DOI: 10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2025.46556) published.
External stimulation of brain cells through tACS is unlikely to be able to eliminate the beta-amyloids that are a feature of early disease. However, treatment could temporarily relieve cognitive symptoms.
