Asian Embassies Honour Former Vietnamese President Trân Duke luong

Vietnamese embassies across Asia held ceremonies to commemorate the life and legacy of former President Trân Duke Luong, who passed away on May 20 at the age of 88.
On May 24, Vietnamese embassies in China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand organized tribute ceremonies for Trân Duke Luong, a former member of the political bureau and former president. He died on May 20 at 88 years old.
Tributes in Beijing
In Beijing, high-ranking officials from various Chinese ministries, departments, associations, and organizations attended a memorial. Attendees honoured the former leader and signed a condolence book, acknowledging his contributions to Vietnam’s national growth and the strengthening of Sino-Vietnamese relations. His role in promoting the “16 golden words” – friendly neighborhood, globale cooperation, sustainable stability and orientation towards the future – and the “4 good” spirit – good neighbor, good friend, good comrade and good partner – was notably highlighted.
More than 30 ambassadors, managers, and representatives from diplomatic missions and international organizations in Beijing also attended the ceremony or sent their condolences to the embassy.
Later that day,Chinese president Xi jinping sent a message of condolence to Vietnamese Party Secretary General Tô Lâm and President of the State,Luong Cuong. Xi Jinping described Trân Duke Luong as an extraordinary leader and praised his crucial role in Vietnam’s national development and renewal.

He described Trân duke Luong as an exceptional leader of the Party and the Vietnamese state, and praised his crucial role in national development.
Hong Kong and Macao
The Vietnam Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macao also held a similar ceremony. Participants included Deputy Commissioner Pan Yundong from the Chinese Foreign Ministry commissioner’s office for the Special Administrative Region, the General Consul of Laos Ammala Saenchonghack, and representatives from the Consulate General of Indonesia.

Other Asian Capitals
In Tokyo, the Ambassadors of cuba, Laos, and Sri Lanka, along with representatives from Vietnamese associations, youth groups, students, and community organizations, paid their respects by offering incense and signing the condolence register.
Loy Hui Chien, managing director for Southeast Asia II at the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the ceremony in Singapore. He noted Trân Duke luong’s leadership during Vietnam’s post-renewal period and the Asian financial crisis,as well as his work promoting the country’s integration into ASEAN and the international community.
Envoys from embassies including Laos, Cuba, China, India, Australia, Peru, and Myanmar, as well as members of the Vietnamese community and student associations, also participated in the Singapore event.
In Kuala Lumpur, the countries participating in the Asean senior officials (SOM) meeting also offered their condolences. Member States praised Trân Duke Luong’s contributions to the region and ASEAN,particularly during Vietnam’s early years of membership.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim conveyed his condolences to the family and the Vietnamese people.
At the Vietnam Embassy in Bangkok, the ambassadors of Russia, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Cambodia, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Oman, and Nigeria paid tribute. Representatives from the Thailand-Vietnam friendship association and leaders from Thai companies like CP Group, amata, and Central Group were also present.
