The S&P 500 index exceeded 5,000 during the day the previous day thanks to the strength of major technology stocks, and also exceeded 5,000 at the closing price.
On the 9th (US Eastern time) at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended trading at 38,671.69, down 54.64 points (0.14%) from the previous day.
The Standard & Poor’s (S&P) 500 index closed at 5,026.61, up 28.70 points (0.57%) from the previous day, and the Nasdaq index closed at 15,990.66, up 196.95 points (1.25%) from the previous day.
The Dow ended trading in a downtrend after breaking a record high the previous day, and the S&P 500 index rose for five consecutive weeks, breaking a record high by exceeding the 5,000 mark in based on the closing price.
It has been almost three years since the S&P 500 index exceeded 4,000 in April 2021.
The Nasdaq index is approaching the 16,000 mark and is only about 60 points away from its all-time high of 16,057.44 recorded in November 2021.

The company issued a recall for its granola bars and cereals, a move that hurt its sales in addition to weaker growth in the category as a whole.
“Going forward, we will further improve our focus on providing great-tasting products that offer convenience and compelling value,” said CEO Ramon Laguerta.
