Toyota Hilux Legend 55 to Roll Out in July with Widebody Design and Enhanced Styling
Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) announced the launch of the Hilux Legend 55 in July. This special edition will bring a fresh design philosophy to the acclaimed bakkie, featuring a widebody design, enhanced styling, and specific badging. The Legend 55 is expected to be the final special model of the current Hilux generation before its successor replaces it in the next year or two.
Widebody Design and Suspension
The Toyota Hilux Legend 55 will boast a robust widebody exterior and wide-tracked suspension, mirroring the GR Sport III’s impressive aesthetics and performance. While it shares design cues with the GR Sport III, the Legend 55 may not replicate all of its features to prevent overlap between the models. The bespoke alloy wheels from the displayed model will likely remain functional, though they will not be fitted with the same all-terrain tires used on the GR Sport III.
The suspension, in particular, is expected to be tuned differently. The one-piece shock absorbers that distinguish the GR Sport III are most likely to be omitted in the Legend 55.
Styling Enhancements
The Legend 55 exudes an even bolder presence with increased detailing. The exterior features black fog light bezels, grille, and mirror caps, creating a sophisticated look. It comes with a branded bash plate, extended wheel arches, side steps, and a new sports bar, providing a unique look that separates it from other Hilux models.
Interior details remain to be disclosed, but fans eagerly anticipate additional Legend 55-specific trimmings in the cockpit.
Engine Options for Toyota Hilux Legend 55
Currently, the choice of engines for the Toyota Hilux Legend 55 is还未 finalized. Selecting the most suitable engine remains under discussion by Toyota South Africa Motors. However, the options under consideration are the 2.8-liter turbodiesel GD-6 engine, available in standard and 48V mild hybrid versions, and an upscaled version of the GD-6 found in the GR Sport III model with higher power output.
The standard 2.8-liter GD-6 engine generates 150kW of power and 500Nm torque, while the 48V mild hybrid combination adds 12kW and 65Nm to the mix. The GR Sport III variant produces 165kW and 550Nm, a potent offering suitable for high-performance duties. The new Legend 55 will be paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox, ensuring smooth, efficient operation.
As anticipation builds on the arrival of the Hilux Legend 55, the bakkie remains an essential part of Toyota’s lineup. Its widebody design, enhanced styling, and potential engine choices align with the growing demand for capable and visually striking vehicles.
