While the vehicle assembly lines are back in operation, the engine factory in Porto Feliz (SP) remains closed and there is no set deadline for reopening.
In a previous statement, Toyota classified the damage to the unit as “large in extent”. The work on site is focused on analyzing the condition of the equipment and evaluating a possible temporary transfer of the machinery.
Porto Feliz’s 800 employees are on layoff (temporary suspension of the employment contract) for an indefinite period.
The 5,800 employees in Sorocaba and the 1,500 in Indaiatuba returned to work on October 21, after the end of an emergency vacation period.
The incident also impacted the brand’s main launch for this year — the compact SUV Yaris Cross, which was scheduled to debut in October and will be launched in November.
