A 15-year-old boy has died following a shooting in the west end of TORONTO on saturday night, police have confirmed.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the Emmett Ave. and Jane St. area shortly after 10 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
Det. Sgt. PHILLIP CAMPBELL stated that the teenager was instantly transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
“We can understand how concerning incidents like this are to members of the community,” CAMPBELL said during a news conference on Sunday afternoon. “We want to assure the public that we are dedicating all necessary resources to this examination to find those responsible.”
According to CAMPBELL, authorities currently lack a description of the suspect, who fled the scene after the shooting. Officers are maintaining a presence in the area to gather video footage and interview potential witnesses.
“It’s way early. There’s lots of people that we want to interview. There’s lots of family that we wanna talk to. As you can imagine, it is pretty sensitive to some people,” CAMPBELL added.
CAMPBELL urged anyone with details related to the incident to contact investigators.
“Every time this happens, somebody loses somebody they love and care about, and it’s pretty harmful,” he said. “It has a ripple effect on the community.”
