The list was revealed at the Madrid Coffee Festival in Spain, where experts rated coffee shops based on quality of coffee, barista skills, customer service, innovation, ambiance, sustainability practices, food and pastry quality, and consistency.
Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters Takes the Top Spot
Leading the pack is Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters, a pioneering coffee brand with a strong presence across Australia. Founded in 1997 by Toby Smith from his mother’s garage in Woolloomooloo, Sydney, Toby’s has grown into a recognized authority in the coffee world.
“We’re stoked to be putting Australian coffee on the world stage, alongside some incredible company,” remarked Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters, celebrating the news with free coffee at their flagship store in Sydney.
Proud Mary Coffee and Coffee Anthology Also Shine
Two more Australian coffee spots secured top-10 positions: Proud Mary Coffee in Melbourne and Coffee Anthology in Brisbane. Proud Mary Coffee ranked fourth, and Coffee Anthology placed eighth.

Aside from the top-10 spots, Australia claimed several other honorable mentions. Veneziano Coffee Roasters in Sydney, Calere Coffee in Melbourne, Exchange Coffee in Adelaide, Fonzie Abbott in Brisbane, Vacation Coffee in Melbourne, and Seven Seeds in Melbourne all made the top 100 list.
