After The Deceptive Crocodile/Dido and Aeneas presented in 2023 at National Popular Theater (TNP) in Villeurbannehere is Samuel Achache returns with an astonishing production, Without Drum.

From Schumann’s Lieders, which he had begun to approach in his previous show The Fall of the Househe knits a funny variation on the romantic breakup and the deconstruction of love.

Taking this literally, since the setting features a life-size house, which we do not know if it is under construction or in the process of being destroyed. This project, which was very prominent during the 2022 Avignon Festival, is taking place at the TNP from December 16 to 20, 2025 and all dates are already sold out.

Without Druma show that combines music and theater

With the aptly named company The Deafwhich he founded in 2021 after his departure from the Théâtre de l’Aquarium and La viebrie – the company he founded with Jeanne Candel in 2009 and with whom he wrote numerous theatrical-musical projects, including The Deceptive Crocodile – he is having a great time.

Skillfully intertwining music and theater since the director seeks above all to make people hear “how to watch music” et “how to listen to the theater“, the performers, including himself, both musicians, actors and actresses, show wacky and tender skitspoetic and burlesque.

Taking the form of the song, they all proceed in fragments, to speak of love and dislove, of collapse and reconstruction, like a metaphor for our world, weaving Tristan and Isolde of Wagner’s unusual arrangements, unfolding the motifs of Schumann’s music to better distort and reinvent them.

And it works wonderfully with a team where most of the members have already worked together and are linked by an intimate complicity that shows on set. To discover without delay!
