As early as 2021, Samsung and Google merged their operating systems Tizen and Wear OS. Since then, Tizen has only been developed for other devices such as smart TVs. New Galaxy smartwatches from Samsung have only appeared with Wear OS for four years, the support for tizen on the watches is processed. And in four weeks there will be a final end: The Tizen Store closes, the installation of apps on the smartwatch via the corresponding app on the coupled smartphone is no longer possible.
The cut-off date is September 30, 2025, as can be seen from a Samsung support document. Until then, you can still use the store to put apps and other content such as dials on the smartwatch. Since June 25, 2025, the Tizen store no longer has been selling free content, which, among other things, may affect the many dials created by users. At the end of September, however, no purchased apps that were previously deleted by the clock can be reinstalled on it. The watches continue to work, but there are no longer updates for tizen or apps.
Affected devices and remedies
According to Android Authority, the Smartwatches Galaxy Gear, Gear 2, Gear Live, Gear S, Gear S2, Gear S3, Gear Sport, Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active 2, and Galaxy Watch 3 were delivered. For example, to transport apps to the clock after a factory reset through a battery exchange, there are several options. In this sub-Reddit, some methods are shown for which root access on the smartphone is necessary. In the XDA forum, a method without root for the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is described. And ibid, in another thread, there are instructions for Gear S2 and S3. In that thread there is also a list of app packages and dials that have already been secured from the store, including the descriptions of the time.
