Tisza Party Abstains From Von der Leyen No-Confidence Vote

by Archynetys World Desk

“The no-confidence motion was submitted because of the Mercosur agreement, which is disadvantageous for farmers. However, yesterday, with a People’s Party proposal and the vote of TISZA EP representatives, we managed to prevent the entry into force of the Mercosur agreement, so today’s vote has become pointless,” explained Péter Magyar, leader of the Tisza Party, as to why his party will not participate in the vote on the no-confidence motion against Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday.

In his post, Magyar also wrote that the representatives of the Tisza Party are entering into a conflict with the European People’s Party by abstaining from the vote on the motion of no confidence, but this is not the first time. “If we receive a punishment from the European People’s Party for our absence today, we will accept it.”

Within a year, enough signatures were collected for the fourth no-confidence motion against the European Commission. Monday’s European Parliament (EP) debate was the first in that Ursula von der Leyen did not appear in person. Instead, Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič represented the European Commission.

The vote of confidence was scheduled for Thursday. Overturning the entire European Commission would require at least half of all MEPs and at least two-thirds of the voters. In the three attempts so far, they were far from both conditions. So far, the first PfE trial came closest with 179 yes, 378 no, and 37 abstentions.
