Timothée Chalamet: Critics Choice Win & Oscar Buzz

Timothée Chalamet scored points for the Oscars on Sunday January 4 by winning the best actor award for Marty Supreme during the Critics Choice Awards, the ceremony which opens the Hollywood awards season this year.

He notably beat Leonardo DiCaprio, whose political thriller One battle after another won the awards for best film, best director and best adapted screenplay.

The Franco-American actor is leading a very notable campaign for Marty Supremedirected by Josh Safdie, in which he plays a 1950s table tennis champion consumed by his ambitions. “Josh, you created the story of an imperfect man with a relatable dream.”declared Timothée Chalamet. “And you didn’t lecture the audience about what’s right or wrong, and I think we should all tell stories like this, so thank you for this dream”he added.

Several Oscars for ambition

Aged 30, Timothée Chalamet has never hidden his ambition to win several Oscars. He is now the favorite for the ceremony which will be held on March 15. With his victory at the Critics Choice Awards, decided by specialist critics, he could advance his pawns for the Oscars, awards awarded by cinema professionals.

The ceremony was held this year on the coveted slot of the first weekend of the year, opening the awards season, and usually occupied by the Golden Globes. They will be held in Beverly Hills on January 11.

Jessie Buckley won the best actress award on Sunday for her role as playwright William Shakespeare’s wife in Hamlet.

Jimmy Kimmel, winner of the best talk show award, used the ceremony to joke about his argument with US President Donald Trump last year, which led to the temporary suspension of his show. “Thank you, Mr. President, for all the ridiculous things you do every day”he quipped.
