Tiger Woods Reassesses Golf Future Following Mother’s Passing

During the CBS broadcast booth at the Genesis Invitational, Tiger Woods expressed his anticipation for participating in major golf events. However, his stance seemed to shift after his performance in a Team Golf League (TGL) match the following Tuesday night.

Mixed Signals About Future Tournaments

When asked about his plans for the upcoming Cognizant Classic near Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Woods indicated that golf was not currently on his mind.

“I really haven’t thought about golf,” Woods stated. “So I don’t think I’m going to be thinking about it for just a little bit here.”

The 15-time major champion last participated in an official Tour event at the 2024 British Open.

Grieving Period Takes Center Stage

Woods has been dealing with the loss of his mother, who passed away on February 4. Initially, he planned to compete at the Genesis Invitational, but he withdrew to focus on his grief.

The Genesis Invitational and Team Golf League Appearances

His mother last saw him play during a TGL match on January 27. Woods acknowledged that participating in TGL, just days after her passing, was emotionally challenging.

“I had a hard time driving down here,” Woods confessed. “I hadn’t hit a golf ball since I played with the President on February 9 and just put everything away and shut it off. I had a really hard time getting here and then reliving all the moments that we’ve had.”

Future Golf Plans Remain Uncertain

Despite his current state, it is anticipated that Woods will make an appearance at the Masters tournament in early April. If he wishes to gain more practice before then, the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill or the Players Championship could be strong contenders.
