Tiger Mosquito & Dengue: Cases Rise in Occitanie, France

The Regional Health Agency reveals a first indigenous case of dengue identified in the town of Canet-en-Roussillon in this summer 2025.

The tiger mosquito takes comfort in Occitania. The point of situation, completed in August 27, 2025, of the ARS confirms it. Between May 1 and this August 27, no month of 96 cases imported from Chikungunya were identified and 38 Aboriginal cases (19 in the Gard, 19 in Hérault). 82 cases imported from dengue have also been revealed, including 1 in Canet-en-Roussillon, the other in the lot. Finally, a case imported from Zika has been confirmed.

The ARS specifies that around each reported case of Dengue, Chikungunya or Zika, investigations and management measures are deployed by state services, ARS Occitanie, Public Health France and Altopictus
(ARS demoustication operator), in connection with health professionals in the territory.
These actions include:
• An epidemiological survey to identify all risk exposure places.
• Entomological surveys to identify the presence of tiger mosquitoes around places of
passage of the sick person.
• Targeted demoustication operations, aimed at eliminating larval and mosquitoes
adults in the sectors concerned. Local residents are informed upstream of these interventions.
• Reinforced awareness of the population around the areas concerned.
• Awareness of local health professionals to strengthen the report of any
new suspicious case.

ARS also recalls gestures to fight against the tiger mosquito

• Eliminate the places where water can stagnate
• Change water from plants and flowers at least once a week or, if possible,
Delete or fill with sandplays with flower pots with sand
• Check the right water flow and clean regularly: gutters, looks,
gutters
• Cover water tanks (water cans, tanks, pools) with a mosquito net or
a simple fabric, cover the small pools out of use
• Eliminate adult mosquitoes rest: brushcutter and cut herbs
high and hedges, picking up the fallen fruits and plant debris, reducing sources
humidity …
