Three Vancouver Craft Breweries Forge Unprecedented Alliance to Open Shared Taproom
In a unique collaboration reminiscent of the iconic “Three Musketeers,” three of Vancouver’s acclaimed craft breweries have pledged to unite under one roof. By occupying the former space of Andina Brewing at 1507 Powell St, Slow Hand Beer Company, Temporal Artisan Ales, and Boombox Brewing are pooling their resources to form a dynamic and innovative collective known as Threefold Brewing.
The Collaborative Vision
“Threefold is a brewery collective,” says Matt Kump, co-owner of Threefold. “For years, Slow Hand, Temporal, and Boombox have individually honed their craft, and now they’re combining their knowledge and skills to bring something fresh and exciting to the local beer scene.”
Each brewery contributes its distinctive style, ensuring a variety of offerings at the new shared taproom. Slow Hand, Temporal, and Boombox will maintain their individual identities, allowing patrons to experience their unique flavors and brewing traditions.
The Challenge of Affordable Space
Securing affordable space for craft breweries in Vancouver has proven increasingly challenging. By forming Threefold, these long-standing businesses have found an opportunity to grow and evolve together, addressing the market’s pressing need for collaborative solutions.
“The space crunch in this city has made it impossible for small breweries to thrive alone,” Kump elaborates. “Our collective approach not only solves this issue but also strengthens the industry as a whole.”
The Shared Space & Future Plans
Currently operational, the brewing facility is already in full swing, with a diverse array of beer styles being brewed. The taproom, on the other hand, is undergoing a transformation, blending elements from each member brewery’s aesthetic to create a warm and inviting environment. Inspired by the late 1970s and early 1980s mid-fi design, the space is set to captivate patrons upon its February 2025 opening.
“Our taproom aims to be a welcoming hub where people can enjoy diverse, expertly crafted beers,” Kump notes. “We also envision hosting special food and beverage events, guest chef pop-ups, and beer pairings to enhance the overall experience.”
Beyond Local Boundaries
Threefold’s ambitions extend beyond Vancouver. The collective is exploring international collaborations, establishing partnerships with brewers in the United States, Japan, and potentially Belgium. This global reach could introduce unique brewing techniques and ingredients to local consumers, enriching the Vancouver craft beer landscape.
Slow Hand Beer Company: Pioneering Taste
Slow Hand Beer Company is known for its unique and handcrafted brews, offering a taste that is as appealing as it is distinctive. Kump emphasizes the importance of upholding the individual branding and brewing ethos that make these breweries special.
Temporal Artisan Ales: Timeless Quality
Temporal Artisan Ales focuses on creating timeless and high-quality beer. By joining forces with Slow Hand and Boombox, Temporal aims to extend its reach and elevate the collective offering.
Boombox Brewing: Bringing Energy and Innovation
Boombox Brewing is recognized for its innovative approach to brewing, infusing energy and creativity into every glass. The collaboration with other esteemed local brewers adds a unique dimension to Threefold’s offerings.
Excitement Awaits in February 2025
As Threefold Brewing prepares to unveil their new taproom in February 2025, the city’s beer enthusiasts can look forward to a refreshing and distinct addition to the local scene. This innovative partnership not only offers quality beers but also fosters community and supports the craft brewing industry in a challenging economic landscape.
“I’m excited to see how this collaboration will evolve and the impact it will have on our local community and the craft beer world at large,” Kump concludes. “Vancouver’s craft beer scene is truly something special, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.”
