Therapy Dog at Dentist | Yellow Lab Brings Joy to Dental Visits

by Archynetys Health Desk

You will want to schedule your next dental appointment after this video. Knowing many people have dentophobia, therapy dog Annie, helps patients lie back and relax while getting their teeth cleaned. If you’ve never experienced the soothing effect of petting a Yellow Labrador in the dentist chair, you’ll want to pay close attention (and see if one of Annie’s coworkers lives in your area).

On Annie’s account, you can watch as she helps people take on this annual unpleasantness. The caption of the video tells us, “Annie the Therapy Dog is doing her job very well as usual.”

Commenters thoroughly enjoyed Annie’s work ethic with one, @hungrycookiee, remarking, “Dentist office rating: 1 billion stars”. Meanwhile, a few got into the minds of the patients, “‘Sir, this is your seventh appointment this week,'” @jpageturner imagined.

“THIS is how you get people to the dentist,” @opal_moon confirmed. Finally, @theepoopbandit put out there, “I would just be thinking does Annie love me or is this just her job.” We guarantee Annie exceeds expectations at work and adores her clients.

Do therapy dogs actually help?

We have great news here: Of course it’s yes! Humans get a lot of benefit from therapy dogs in a variety of stressful situations, including during medical procedures. One poster explained that they have dental phobia and thought this might help decrease their anxiety. While this practice certainly won’t help for everyone, it may make the difference between a stressful exam and a chill one.

Interestingly, research also seems to indicate that the pups themselves really enjoy working as therapy dogs (and they don’t find it stressful, so take that off your list of worries). Remember that interacting with a pooch can lower stress hormones for both parties.

So, next time you make a dentist appointment, ask if Fido will be joining you for your fillings.
