Maserati MSG Racing Confirms Theo Pourchaire for Rookie Free Practice in Jeddah

The 2023 Formula 2 Champion is set to participate in a critical rookie free practice session with Maserati MSG Racing in Jeddah. This opportunity represents a pivotal moment in Pourchaire’s career as he prepares to drive in a Formula E car for the first time during a race weekend.

Theo Pourchaire’s Excitement and Preparation

At 21 years old, Pourchaire expressed his enthusiasm for the challenge ahead. “I’m really proud to have this opportunity with Maserati MSG Racing,” he said. “Maserati is an iconic car brand, and I’m very happy to be working with Maserati MSG Racing. The team has done fantastic work in the past, and I’ve felt extremely welcome from the moment I joined.”

Pourchaire, a newcomer to Formula E, anticipates the unique experience of driving on the Jeddah track, noting his previous battles there in Formula 2. “I know the Jeddah track from F2, having raced there three times. While the configuration is slightly different and the car is very different, I believe knowing the track a little will help me adapt quicker in the new car with a new team.

“I’ve done some work with the team in the simulator to prepare, but there’s nothing like driving the real thing,” Pourchaire added. “I’m excited to get on track, show what I can do, help the team, and hopefully have some fun!”

Team Principal Cyril Blais’s Praise for Pourchaire

Cyril Blais, the Team Principal of Maserati MSG Racing, echoed Pourchaire’s sentiments. “Théo is an incredibly talented driver, and we’ve followed his career closely over the past few years. His speed and adaptability across multiple racing disciplines prove his mettle.”

Blais anticipates that Pourchaire’s technical feedback will be invaluable as the team looks to start the race weekend on a strong footing. “The Jeddah track will be new for all of us, adding an extra layer of challenge. However, we’re confident in Théo’s experience and ability to handle the situation,” he noted.

“Personally, I can’t wait to see what Théo can do. As usual, we’ll approach the session with realistic expectations and very level heads,” Blais concluded.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah will host its first Formula E double-header event, held on Friday, February 14th, and Saturday, February 15th, 2025. This event marks the first visit to Jeddah and signifies a new era with the GEN3 Evo cars.
