The Urgent Need for Change in the National Health System: Embracing Awareness and Acceptance in the 21st Century

According to Nathaniel Branden, “The first step towards change is awareness. The second step is acceptance“. This phrase from a psychotherapist can be perfectly applied to understand the moment in which a National Health System is experiencing a need for profound change, adapting to the new reality in which we live, moving from the 20th century to the Current 21st century. It is clear that we are already aware of this need for change, although many do not admit it, but now is the time to take it.

I cannot go without mentioning the various articles I have dedicated in this same opinion forum about the need to change the National Health System. There have been many and, among them all, I refer to the inevitable need to change a model that is obsolete, already outdated, and no longer responds to the needs of patients and professionals.

I believe that this need for change has already dawned on the people responsible for bringing it about; not only are patients and professionals aware of it, but managers and many politicians make this need public. What is clear is that I hardly see serious and serious proposals for change,

Loss of Visual Sensitivity Reveals Early Dementia Risk, Study Finds

Can the Eyes Reveal the Early Signs of Cognitive Decline?

Eyes: The Window to Brain Health

The eyes are often referred to as the windows to our souls, but they may also provide valuable insight into the health of our brains. Recent research suggests that problems with visual sensitivity could be an early indicator of cognitive decline and even predict dementia years before it is diagnosed.

The Study: Unveiling Clues Through Visual Sensitivity

A groundbreaking study conducted in Norfolk, England, followed 8,623 initially healthy individuals over several years. By the end of the study, 537 participants had developed dementia. Analyzing their earlier assessments allowed researchers to identify potential precursors to this neurological disorder.

  • Participants were initially asked to take a visual sensitivity test at the onset of the study.
  • The test involved pressing a button upon perceiving a forming triangle amidst moving dots on a screen.
  • It was observed that those who later developed dementia exhibited significantly slower response times in recognizing these triangles compared to those who remained unaffected by cognitive decline.

This raises an intriguing question: why does impaired visual sensitivity precede memory-related symptoms?

7 tips for living a longer life (and avoiding inflammation)

Scientists are clear: to age in good health and improve your life expectancy, it is imperative to avoid generalized inflammation of the body. This phenomenon would in fact be a contributing factor for many health concerns – cardiovascular disorders, senile dementia, loss of muscle mass, repeated bacterial and viral infections, etc.

To limit the risk of developing this famous generalized inflammation of the body, the University of Birmingham (in Great Britain) offers 7 tips that are not difficult to apply on a daily basis:

Move as often as possible

In addition to being excellent for the figure as well as for preventing many cardiovascular diseases (type 2 diabetes, for example), physical activity also helps reduce inflammation in the body. Researchers at the University of Birmingham recommend getting at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each week.

Monitor your weight

Excess fat mass promotes generalized inflammation in the body. Indeed, adipose tissues naturally produce pro-inflammatory cytokines. British researchers therefore recommend adopting a varied and balanced diet to reduce this phenomenon.

Eat more fruits and vegetables

It’s proven: the Mediterranean diet (which emphasizes fruits and vegetables, and especially green leafy vegetables like spinach or kale) reduces markers of inflammation in the body.
