The Traitors: Series Three Begins with a Deadly Twist
In a heart-stopping start to BBC’s beloved game show The Traitors, communication scientist Yin became the first murder victim of series three. The tension is palpable as 22 contestants face off in Scotland’s Highlands to win up to £120,000 (€144,000).
New Contestsants Join the Game
Presenter Claudia Winkleman welcomed a new batch of contestants to the game of detection, backstabbing, and trust. Winkleman explained that three passengers needed to leave the train to reduce the number of players from 25 to 22. In contrast, last year, all contestants made it to the castle, and in series one, the two least likely to win were told to leave.
Changed Rules Enhance Gameplay
Winkleman added an intriguing twist to the game by stating that winning the money this year would require even more smarts. Contestants can no longer reveal whether they are a traitor or faithful after being voted out. Instead, they must use their instincts to determine if any traitors remain in the game.
Traitors Revealed and First Murder Unfaveled
For the first time in the show’s history, Winkleman selected the traitors. The traitors this season are 70-year-old retired opera singer Linda, 29-year-old call centre manager Minah, and 27-year-old financial investigator Armani. After a deliberation, the triplet chose to eliminate 34-year-old Yin from Berkshire. Armani reasoned that Yin was very intellectual and could pose a threat later on.
Winkleman demonstrated the brutal nature of the game when she dropped Yin’s photo to the floor after announcing her murder, stating, “It’s brutal here isn’t it? You need to get used to that.”
The Tense Game Show Continues
The game show, which airs on BBC One, remains intensely competitive. Contestants will attempt to identify other players as “faithfuls” or “traitors,” with traitors plotting to murder faithfuls and faithfuls plotting to uncover traitors. Finalists have the chance to win part of the prize money, but any traitors who survive until the end, unidentified, take home the full prize pot while any remaining faithfuls go home with nothing.
Format and Airing Schedule
The second episode is set to air on January 2 at 8pm on BBC One. Subsequent episodes will begin at 9pm on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights.
