Paul Kircher: A Rising Star Nearly Landed Clotaire in "Crazy Love"

"Crazy Love," the buzzworthy French film starring Adèle Exarchopoulos and François Civil, brought casting director Gilles Lellouche quite the challenge: finding the perfect young actors for the roles of Clotaire and Jackie. While Mallory Wanecque quickly secured the role of Jackie, the casting process for Clotaire involved a high-stakes showdown.

A Close Call for the "Animal Kingdom" Star

As revealed in Eric Libiot’s book "Crazy Love, Diary of a Film," rising star Paul Kircher was a finalist for the role. Kircher, known for his captivating performance in "Animal Kingdom," alongside Adèle Exarchopoulos and Romain Duris, was reportedly exceptionally well-matched for Clotaire.

His youth, however, proved to be the deciding factor. According to Libiot, director Gilles Lellouche ultimately chose 18-year-old Malik Frikah, who shares a closer age proximity with both the young Clotaire and his adult counterpart, played by François Civil (34 years old).

Paul Kircher: On the Rise

While Kircher missed out on the "Crazy Love" role, his talent definitely hasn’t gone unnoticed. Recent recognition from the prestigious Venice Film Festival for his performance in "The Children With Them" solidifies his status as a rising star to watch.

Directed by Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma, "The Children With Them" is a poignant film adaptation of Nicolas Mathieu’s acclaimed novel. Notably, Gilles Lellouche, who also directed "Crazy Love," serves as a producer for "The Children With Them" and takes on the role of the father.

Kircher’s compelling performances, coupled with his increasing recognition in the filmmaking world, suggest a promising future for this talented actor.
