Jakarta –
A middle-aged office worker from Chongqing, China, was treated at the Army Medical University Hospital after complaining about a continuous cough. The man told the doctor that the cough he experienced was getting worse in the last few days despite taking cough medicine.
The unnamed man also experienced red eyes that encouraged him to look for medical help. After conducting a CT scan and MRI examination, the doctor found a suspicious shadow in the lower right lungs.
The man then underwent bronchoscopy or medical procedures to see the respiratory tract and lungs. As a result, the man has the lungs due to fungus caused by aspergillus infection.
After asking about the possibility of the cause of the infection, the doctor learned that the man had the habit of kissing his own socks every time he came home from work before putting it in the washing machine.
To get more certain results, the doctor analyzes a pair of dirty socks. The results of the analysis showed the existence of aspergillus fungus traces, and the doctor concluded that the patient’s less hygiene habits were the cause of the infection he experienced.
Odd socks tend to store sweat, salt, and urea. Plus, the warm and moist conditions in the shoes create an ideal environment for mushroom growth.
The habit of kissing dirty socks, even if it belongs to yourself, can increase the risk of inhaling mushroom spores and harmful bacteria.
If the microorganisms enter through the nose and throat, they can reach the lungs and have the potential to cause fungal infections that have a serious impact in the long run.
