Someone has died in a head-on collision on the N366, just across the provincial border in Groningen. A second person was seriously injured.
The accident happened around 7 p.m. between Stadskanaal and Musselkanaal. Two vehicles collided, one ended up in an adjacent ditch. The two drivers of the vehicles were the victims.
Several fire brigades, ambulances and the Mobile Medical Team (MMT) were called. For one of the victims, assistance was no longer of any help.
As far as we know, there were no other people in the vehicles. The police are investigating and looking for witnesses.

Earthquake Hits Los Angeles Region
An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale shook the Los Angeles region on Friday, adding to the challenges posed by recent winter storms.
The epicenter of the quake was located approximately 7 miles northwest of Malibu, in the mountainous terrain near the northern coastline of Los Angeles County, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey.
According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at 1:47 p.m. local time, followed by two aftershocks measuring 2.7 and 3.0 on the Richter scale.
Minimal Damage Reported
Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesperson Fred Fielding reassured the public that a quake of this magnitude would only result in minor damage.
The Los Angeles Fire Department urged residents to inspect their homes and check on their neighbors for any potential damage or injuries.
LAFD spokesperson Erik Scott confirmed that there have been no significant damages reported so far.
No Tsunami Threat
The U.S. Tsunami Warning System stated that there was no threat of a tsunami following the earthquake.
Of spite its mild impact, the earthquake was felt by an estimated 12 million people, according to Caltech geophysics researcher Allen Husker.
