Telekom Baskets Bonn Under Scrutiny in Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga Licensing

The annual licensing process in the Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) is frequently enough met with anticipation and a bit of trepidation by teams, similar to students awaiting their grades. While most clubs expect the outcome, surprises can occur.
This year, the BBL’s licensing committee assessed the applications of 16 first-division teams. Fifteen clubs passed without issue,but the Telekom Baskets Bonn were unexpectedly asked to provide additional information.
This news has undoubtedly caused concern among fans. While the club did not disclose its budget this season, the Baskets’ sponsorship agreement with their primary backer extends until 2026.

To reassure supporters, Managing Director Simon Pallmann, 47, released a statement via the club’s platforms: “It was foreseeable that the changes in the club structure and the change of shareholders in BonBas GmbH woudl lead to questions from the licensing committee. We will answer these questions fully and in a timely manner.”
Pallmann, previously with bayer Leverkusen, took over from Wolfgang Wiedlich, 68, in December. Simultaneously, entrepreneur Maxim Krtschil, 44, became the new main shareholder.
Pallmann elaborated in the “General-Anzeiger,” stating that there was no reason for concern regarding the club’s future.
“It concerns the resubmission of the balance sheet from June 2024, which is currently being processed by the auditor,” Pallmann explained. “In addition, there are some questions of understanding regarding the structure after the change of shareholders, as well as details to be clarified.” The BBL has set a deadline of July 15 for the submission.

An independent panel assesses the financial health of BBL clubs, while the league evaluates formal requirements, youth growth programs, and sustainability efforts.The licensing procedure has proven effective, with the last BBL insolvency occurring in 2016 (Hagen).
Dr. Christian Frystatzki, chairman of the committee, praised the clubs’ professionalism: “The fact that the clubs have again submitted professionally and meticulously prepared documents underlines the expertise at the respective locations. The minimum budget was four million euros for the first time and was certainly a challenge. But this hurdle was also overcome.”
Promoted teams Science City Jena and VET-Concept Gladiators Trier received their licenses on May 28.
