Police prosecutor Ingrid Tjaum confirms to VG on Saturday morning that the driver of the car has been questioned as the accused in the case.

– The accused is charged with a breach of the Penal Code § 281 – Negligent causing of death, she writes in an e-mail.

The driver of the car, a man in his 40s, has been questioned and his driver’s license has been confiscated, the police said on Friday evening.

– When the emergency services arrived at the scene, the person hit was lifeless. Resuscitation was attempted for a long time, but unfortunately life could not be saved, wrote operations manager Ole Robert Strandhagen of the Agder Police on Friday evening.

The next of kin have been notified.

– Incredibly painful

Lyngdal mayor Unni Nilsen Husøy (Frp) tells VG that the municipality’s crisis team has been informed and contacted.

– It is clear that a tragedy like this affects the entire municipality and the local community, she says on Saturday evening.

She herself is clearly affected by the serious accident and struggles to find words over the phone:

– I don’t quite know how to put it into words. This is incredibly painful. I think it’s heavy.

Husøy is clear that their most important task is to follow up the next of kin.

The municipality’s work continues throughout the day and in the future.

– If there is anything more we can contribute, we will of course do so, she says.

Works on site

The police are now working to get an overview of the case and witnesses.

– It is still too early to say anything about the circumstances and what has happened, says police attorney Tjaum.

She emphasizes that they are still in the initial phase of the investigation, and that some work is underway at the scene of the accident.

The municipality’s crisis team has been notified and is following up on those involved and relatives.

On Friday evening, forensic technicians worked at the scene together with the accident team from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

The police write in an update on the night of Saturday that they are still working on securing tracks at the scene of the accident.

– When this ends for the night, the road will still be blocked, as the last investigations will be carried out in daylight on Saturday morning, writes operations manager Knut Odde.

An air ambulance was also dispatched.
