Massive Data Leak Exposes Billions of Accounts

Login credentials for Google, Apple, and other major platforms may be compromised in a newly discovered breach.

A potential leak of up to 16 billion data entries from major global platforms, including Google and Apple, is under investigation.

Cybersecurity media outlet Cyber News reported on Monday that they had identified 30 datasets, or data bundles, through monitoring activities conducted since the start of the year.

The datasets vary in size, ranging from tens of millions to 3.5 billion records each, totaling approximately 16 billion units. According to the report, this includes login credentials, such as usernames and passwords, for services offered by Google and Apple. The total number of leaked entries is about twice the world’s population, suggesting that individual users may have had multiple accounts compromised.

Cyber News acknowledged the possibility of duplicate data within the sets, stating that “it is impossible to figure out how many people and accounts have leaked.”

The breach is suspected to be linked to malicious software known as ‘In Postile‘. Cybernews researchers suggest that the leaked data could be exploited for account theft, identity fraud, and phishing schemes.
