About a month before going to the polls, the objective is to place education issues at the center of the debate, something that has not happened, according to the National Education Federation (FNE).

The National Education Federation (FNE) launches, this Friday, the virtual candidacy of “Maria Esperança Portugal”, a fictitious candidate for the early legislative elections that aims to get the parties to discuss the sector.

“In addition to our work to build a roadmap for the legislature, we want to use it as almost a spokesperson to promote the debate”, FNE general secretary, Pedro Barreiros, explained to Lusa.

Maria Esperança Portugal’s fictitious candidacy is launched today, with the launch of a website detailing the various proposals, from early childhood education to higher education and research.

“It’s Maria because 80% of the teaching and non-teaching staff are women and the nickname we chose was Esperança because we need to have hope within the framework of our demands related to the rejuvenation of the profession and, also for this reason, we created a young face”, he explained. Pedro Barreiros.
