A teacher is accused of sexual assault on a 14-year-old student. Placed under judicial supervision, he risks 10 years in prison.
A 35-year-old teacher from a private college in Chauny (Aisne) will be tried on March 3 for sexual assault on one of his students, a 14-year-old minor, the Laon prosecutor announced to AFP on Wednesday, January 7.
This history-geography professor was placed under judicial supervision and is prohibited from exercising his profession or any other activity involving minors, said prosecutor Jean-Baptiste Miot.
He was initially placed in police custody on Monday evening for rape, but the facts have since been reclassified as sexual assault and corruption of a minor under 15 years old. The existence of acts of penetration, constituting rape, could not be established, the magistrate explained on Tuesday.
Indeed, according to information published by Aisne Nouvelle Tuesday, the schoolgirl was surprised by her grandmother at home “in full lovemaking” with her teacher.
“Despite the romantic relationship mentioned by the young girl, her mother filed a complaint without delay,” our colleagues wrote, which led to the professor’s arrest. The Rectorate immediately suspended him as a precautionary measure.
The teacher had worked in the private Catholic establishment Saint-Charles de Chauny for four years, according to the head of the establishment, Alexis Briaux.
“No one was aware” of a possible relationship between the teacher and the schoolgirl who is “in third grade,” Mr. Briaux told AFP on Tuesday, saying he was “appalled” by this affair.
Any sexual relationship involving an adult and a minor under the age of 15 is systematically considered sexual assault or rape.
The professor now faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, as well as a professional ban.
