Quran Teacher Arrested for Seven-Year Sexual Abuse of Students in Ciledug
Jakarta – A shocking case has emerged from Ciledug, a neighborhood in Tangerang City, involving a Quran teacher named Wahyudin. Wahyudin has been apprehended by the Metro Jaya Regional Police on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, after fleeing his residence in Sudimara Selatan Village. The arrest came following allegations of molesting dozens of his students over a span of seven years, starting in 2017.
Details of the Arrest
According to Sr. Comr. Wira Satya Triputra, Director of General Criminal Investigation for the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Wahyudin, known to victims as “W alias I,” engaged in sexual abuse of minors from 2017 to 2024. A press conference held on Friday, January 31, detailed the harrowing experiences of 20 victims, with 19 of them being minors and one an adult. All victims were male students of Wahyudin.
The Manipulative Tactics
Wahyudin used his position of trust as a religious teacher to manipulate his victims. He claimed to have recurring dreams of being ill, with the “cure” involving the victims’ semen. This belief was used to perpetrate the abuse over an extended period, making it easier for him to continue his exploitation undetected. Wira explained, “The suspect manipulated his victims by claiming to have dreams where he was ill, and the only cure was the victims’ semen, thus perpetrating the abuse.”
Bribes and Rewards
To entice his students, Wahyudin offered various gifts and rewards. These gifts included smartphones, cigarettes, food, free internet access, and monetary payments. After the sexual assaults, he would compensate his victims with sums ranging from Rp20,000 to Rp50,000. This financial incentive played a significant role in maintaining the victims’ silence and dependence on Wahyudin.
Background and Operation
Born in Tangerang on February 20, 1984, Wahyudin posed as a trustworthy Ustad, leading Quran recitation sessions at his home. It was during these sessions that he kidnapped and molested the children. His residence became a hub for abusive activities, exploiting the innocence and trust of his young students.
Evidence Seized
The police recovered substantial evidence during the arrest, including three mobile devices belonging to Wahyudin, a BNI ATM card, and cash amounting to Rp21,065,000. This evidence supports the victims’ testimonies and strengthens the case against Wahyudin.
Legal Consequences
Wahyudin faces severe legal penalties under Article 76E in conjunction with Article 82 of Law No. 17 of 2016. The potential sentence ranges from a minimum of 5 years to a maximum of 15 years in prison, along with a fine of up to Rp5 billion. Sr. Comr. Wira Satya Triputra emphasized the gravity of the charges, reiterating that Wahyudin’s actions were not only criminal but also deeply morally reprehensible.
“The suspect faces a prison term ranging from a minimum of 5 years to a maximum of 15 years, along with a potential fine of up to Rp5 billion,” Wira said.
The Impact and Awareness
This case highlights the importance of vigilance and open communication regarding abuse cases. The bravery of the victims in coming forward is crucial for justice and preventing similar incidents. The community and law enforcement urge anyone with information related to sexual abuse to report it immediately. Together, we can create a safer environment for all.
