According to the gastroenterologist, horsetail tea is usually drunk as a “natural diuretic”, however, it has “hepatotoxic potential”, that is, it tends to cause liver damage. The doctor explains that the infusion, when consumed continuously, can trigger “inflammation and liver damage, especially in individuals who are already using other medications.”

“The fact that it is a plant does not make it risk-free, on the contrary, its active compounds can be toxic to the liver when used without control”, endorses the hepatologist. Patrícia explains that this organ “does not differentiate between what is natural and what is synthetic”: “Everything that passes through it needs to be metabolized, and this can cause liver overload and damage.”
