Tangnes Robban Controversy | Workplace Incident

by Archynetys Sports Desk

Ahead of Saturday’s match between Frölunda and Rögle, coach Robert Ohlsson had commented on Rögle’s large number of powerplay occasions as “astonishing”.
Now Rögle’s coach Dan Tangnes strikes back.
– I get to laugh a little at Robban – we will start a support group for him, Tangnes tells hockeysverige.se.

Rögle lost on Saturday to Frölunda. The summit between the table and the second ended with 4-1 to the home team. The day before the match, there had been an interesting news where Frölund coach Robert Ohlsson commented on Rögles Powerplay opportunities.

Ohlsson said it was “astonishing” that Rögle brought 46 powerplay in 10 matches. During the match on Saturday, Rögle had brought four expulsions at the same time as Frölunda got three.

Dan Tangnes strikes back: “Pity Robban”

After the match, Rögle coach Dan Tangnes shared his opinion on the situation.

– That is much like my fifteen -year -old daughter should count percent. There will be some Allan statistics on it. You have to look at what the matches have looked and how many expulsions we have attracted. We are the team that has drawn on the most expulsions as well, so then the match pictures often look different, Tangnes tells Hockey Sweden and continues:
– I’ll laugh a little at Robban. I have great respect for him but he does not do it by chance, it all takes. I think it’s a pity for Robban! I think I speak for the whole SHL that we are behind Robban in his fight against the judge’s corps and we will start a support group for him and make sure he can repair his relationship with the judges. Then I am quite sure that Frölunda will get more powerplay in the months to come, laughs the Röglet trainer.

Rögle’s assistant coach Taylor Matson also sees nothing strange with the number of powerplay occasions the team has brought with them.

-I think we deserve our powerplay opportunities. We play with a lot of puck, so we deserve our powerplay. We have worked hard for them, move a lot on our feet and play hard against our opponents. We deserve our powerplay, they don’t get for free in this league, says Matson at the press conference after the match.

Despite four powerplay in the match against Frölunda, there were no goals in the game form. Rögle’s only goal came in game five against five and according to the coaches, it was precisely the efficiency that was missing in the match.

Compare Rögles figures to Loob’s target record

Robert Ohlsson also took the opportunity to develop a little about what he was referring to with his comment on Rögles Powerplay events.

– I look at a historical perspective. Say that someone is hitting Håkan Loob’s goal record, then you write about it quite a lot. Rögle is located on a number of powerplay that averages 4.6 per match. So it would beat the current record that I think is at 184. I think Rögle would land somewhere at 240, Ohlsson explains at the press conference after the match.

The Frölund coach believes that it would be the same that a player beats Loob’s record with 10 goals, which Ohlsson thinks is remarkable.

– Then maybe Rögle, as Taylor says, does a lot of good things to get this. Still, it is an increase from an average of 3.2, which was historically highest, to 4.6. It makes me think it is astonishing. It stands out when I look at all the parameters in the statistics. Nothing is discussed about some teams that have very few powerplay opportunities either. So it is somewhere a balance I think that you need to review, says Ohlsson.

Dissatisfied with the expulsion: “It is probably directly addressed to me”

In terms of today’s expulsions that Frölunda received, the coach mostly holds with the judges. On the other hand, the slope Christian Folin went out towards the end of the match for “Delaying the game” after sitting with his legs outside the Frölundabåset.

Ohlsson does not agree with that deportation.

– We get one for six men on the ice, it’s stupid, we have to take it on. That we have a leg on the coffin, our fourth expulsion today, it stings I must say. It is probably directly addressed to me and my group, I think, from the judge. I don’t like that, says Frölunda coach and continues:
– There are so many occasions where there is a leg on the coffin. Then there are many times someone goes by and say that now it is a warning and everyone knows about it. But there will still be bones on the coffin. If we are there looking for expulsions instead of what is happening on the pitch – I am a little questionable.

Ohlsson believes that the judges shift the focus from a good hockey match to that decision, which the coach thinks is bad. Ohlsson also believes that there should be pressure on the judicial corps as it is an “astonishing” large number of powerplay occasions that Rögle has.

Despite a certain referee focus after the match, coaches in both Rögle and Frölunda are happy with large parts of the match. Rögles Dan Tangnes sees no problem in the fact that efficiency was not right during today’s match and looks forward to Skånederbyt that awaits the Angelolmarna next week Thursday.

Ohlsson, on the other hand, is pleased with Frölunda’s efficiency and ways to close the match in the third period. Frölunda has no SHL match on Thursday and will instead play a CHL match against SC Bern on Tuesday.

Frölunda’s next match will be on Saturday when the Gothenburg team is hosted by Timrå.
