Civil Protection reported the lowest temperatures in Nuevo Laredo, where two homeless people were transferred to a shelter

Victoria, Tamaulipas.– The state coordinator of Civil Protection, Luis Gerardo González, reported that the entry of cold front number 17 caused a notable decrease in temperatures in the northern part of the State, where minimum temperatures of up to 7 degrees have been recorded, particularly in the municipality of Nuevo Laredo, one of the most affected by the phenomenon.

He explained that during the early morning, personnel from the Municipal Civil Protection Directorate carried out tours to locate people in vulnerable situations and offer them transfer to the temporary shelters open in the city.

As a result, two homeless people were taken to a shelter to protect themselves from the cold.

In the central area, temperatures have dropped to 10 degrees, although the thermal sensation is lower due to the humidity present, explained the coordinator.

González assured that all temporary shelters in the state remain enabled and ready to receive the population that requires it, and called to report any case of people exposed to low temperatures to the emergency number 911.

The official pointed out that, so far, no cases of hypothermia associated with this cold front have been recorded.

On the other hand, given the recent incidents of powder keg explosions that occurred in Nuevo León and the State of Mexico, González reported that in Tamaulipas permanent surveillance is maintained over the points of sale and storage of fireworks that operate with official permits.

He explained that those who have authorization receive prior training and develop an internal Civil Protection program, this with the support of the Secretariat of National Defense, in charge of issuing the corresponding permits.

The coordinator urged citizens to report any home or establishment suspected of storing gunpowder or pyrotechnic items irregularly.

“We have already had cases in previous years, so it is important that the population call us at 911 to prevent accidents and safeguard lives,” he indicated.
