Syria Anniversary: Assad Regime & Celebration Day

by Archynetys World Desk

In Syria, special public events marked the first anniversary of the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad‘s regime after an 11-day offensive by opposition rebel fighters, the suddenness and speed of which surprised many not only in Syria itself, but also around the world.

This event ended the 53-year rule of the el-Assad family and the 14-year civil war that raged in the country, during which 620,000 people lost their lives in the country, many of whom left the country, fleeing not only from the hostilities, the destructive airstrikes of the government and its supporter – Russia, but also from falling into the hands of the repressive security services of the B. el-Assad regime.

The former jihadist, who is currently the interim president of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, has managed to reintegrate the country into the international community during a year of successful diplomatic offensive, representing Syria in international forums and even establishing good relations with US President Donald Trump, who has canceled a large part of the US sanctions against Syria.

It is true that inter-religious and inter-ethnic tensions continue to smolder in the country destroyed during the civil war itself. Old resentments are being exposed, creating new cycles of mutual violence and endangering efforts to restore the country, writes The Guardian.
