Jocelyne Wildenstein, Famed ‘Catwoman’ Socialite, Passes Away at 79
The social and fashion world was stunned by the passing of Jocelyne Wildenstein, affectionately known as “catwoman” due to her extensive plastic surgeries, at the age of 79. Her partner, Lloyd Klein, shared the sad news.
Unexpected Death in Paris
“It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I announce the unexpected death of my beloved fiancée and longtime companion, Jocelyne Wildenstein,” Lloyd Klein, a well-known fashion designer, stated in an English-language release to AFP.
Klein added that Mrs. Wildenstein had died peacefully in her sleep on December 31, 2024, in her suite in Paris where she and Klein had taken up temporary residence since August.
Klein tried to wake her for a New Year’s Eve dinner but was unable to reach her. Doctors who arrived on the scene indicated that heart failure had been the cause of her death.
A Life of Glamour and Divorce
Born in Switzerland in 1945, Jocelyne Perisset became a prominent figure in the New York social scene after marrying art dealer Alec Wildenstein. Together, they had two children.
Though Perisset kept Wildenstein’s name after their messy divorce in the late 1990s, she was known for her lavish lifestyle and high-profile connections.
Throughout her life, she sparked controversy due to her penchant for cosmetic surgeries, noted for giving her a distinctive feline-like eye shape. Her many procedures made her a subject of scrutiny in society circles.
Cosmetic Surgery and Controversy
With over a million followers on Instagram, Wildenstein was a cosmetic surgery aficionado and publicly addressed misconceptions about her looks and surgical procedures.
In a recent interview, she clarified that she did not undergo procedures to win back her ex-husband, Alec Wildenstein. “I never wanted to change my face,” she told French television news channel C8. “Though I might have wished for slightly thicker lips.”
The couple’s last Instagram post showed them posing outside the Ritz Paris on December 23, 2024, to the music of Wham’s “Last Christmas.”
The Divorce Settlement
The divorce between Wildenstein and Alec Wildenstein remains one of the most expensive in history. She received $2.5 billion, marking a significant blow to Wildenstein’s wealth.
“It was during New York Fashion Week in 2001 when Lloyd was presenting his fashion collection on the runway that we met,” Klein reminisced. “She was a front-row guest, and after that show, we became romantically involved and inseparable ever since.”
A Zest for Life
Klein praised Wildenstein, describing her as his best friend, partner, and fiancée. “She had a zest for life, and a wicked sense of humor,” Klein said, reflecting on his relationship with Wildenstein.
Final Words
Jocelyne Wildenstein’s life was marked by eccentric glamour, high-profile connections, and a relentless pursuit of her own unique sense of beauty. Her passing leaves a void in the social and fashion circles she once dominated.
As the world mourns the loss of this iconic socialite, her legacy lives on through her devoted following and enduring influence in the world of fashion and cosmetic surgery.
