The 2025 peat harvest was severely limited by extreme weather conditions and only reached around a quarter to a third of the usual quantities. At the same time, global demand is increasing and increasing the shortage of raw materials. It’s high time to look at alternatives to peat.
At this year’s substrate and fertilization conference, we will examine the communication about peat-free potting soils to end consumers and take a look at the economic effects and competitiveness in times of peat reduction. We show the results of a nationwide trial for peat-free production of calibrachoa and find out what challenges poinsettia production presents when switching to peat-free substrates on a commercial scale. Afterwards, company representatives from the substrates and fertilizers sector will present their products and there will be the opportunity to view the current greenhouse trials.
