America’s largest medical device maker has been out of business for more than five days following a cyber attack by hackers linked to Iran. Stryker Corporation in the field of medical technology faced a cyber attack. Following this, the US government agency issued guidelines asking companies to implement Microsoft’s new security measures. Cyber Security and Infrastructure Agency has issued a warning to the companies.

The company said it has successfully contained the cyber attack and is focusing on normalizing ordering, shipping and customer services. The cyber attack affected the company’s global operations in 61 countries. But they say the attack did not affect medical equipment or services provided to patients.

The cyber attack took place on March 11. Mobile phones, laptops and other remote devices that were connected to the company’s platforms went down as a result. This disrupted services including order processing, manufacturing operations and shipments. An Iran-linked hacking group claimed responsibility for the attack the same day. They claimed that the cyber operation was carried out in retaliation for the attack on a girls’ school in southern Minab, Iran.

Meanwhile, the company has clarified that there was no danger to the patients due to the cyber attack. In a statement, the company also claimed that all Stryker products and technologies used worldwide are safe.

However, business operations were disrupted for five days which has been a setback for the company.
