DWD warns of heavy rain, hail and thunderstorms in the next few days
First report from Monday, July 7, 10:23 p.m.: Offenbach – After a phase with many hours of sunshine and heat, the new week in Hessen mainly begins rainy and cloudy. The German Weather Service (DWD) reports that local showers and thunderstorms could always occur on Monday (July 7). There is the possibility of heavy rain and hail. Strong gusts of wind at temperatures between 18 and 22 degrees are also conceivable.
According to prediction, there are still individual thunderstorms and occasional showers on Tuesday (July 8), but dry phases can also be expected. The maximum temperatures should be between 17 and 20 degrees.
| Monday, July 7th | Tuesday, July 8th | Wednesday, July 9th |
| 20° C | 20° C | 24° C |
According to the DWD, Wednesday (July 9) initially begins very cloudy with isolated rain showers. During the day, however, it should clear up and remain largely dry. With temperatures between 20 and 23 degrees, it gets a little warmer.
In the past few days and weeks, Hessen has also experienced extreme weather changes that have ranged from heat to violent thunderstorms. In addition to lightning and thunder, heavy rain appeared. Such events can cause considerable damage depending on the location.
Climate change makes storms more often and stronger – take protective measures in good time
Experts suspect that climate change increases the frequency and intensity of such storms. Heike Hübener from the Hessian State Office for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology emphasizes that all cities and municipalities should analyze their specific situations and take appropriate measures. Homeowners should also find out more. The state office offers information on the local location.

The heat of the past few weeks has also left traces. The Liederbach has already dried out: lazy stinking puddles instead of water flow.
Hübener explains that there is often still time for protective measures in large rivers. “But when the heavy rain comes, it is lightning -fast and for measures it is too late. It means preventing it.”
Waterproof windows and doors, increased light shafts and check flaps for the channel are recommended. Uninhibited areas and green areas in the garden promote infiltration, while roof and facade greening can slow down the rain outflow. Rapidly spreading water harbors considerable dangers. The city of Frankfurt urgently warns of entering flooded areas such as underground garages or underpasses. (Anki/dpa)
