During the Strasbourg Christmas market period, bicycle traffic across the city remains unchanged. The Grande-Île is authorized for cyclists and accessible from all the bridges, but due to the high number of pedestrians, it is recommended that they go around the perimeter via the ring road.
To access the Grande-Île and the markets during busy periods, it is advisable to park your bike near the ring road and continue on foot. Furthermore, it is strongly recommended not to cycle in the market squares.
A route map available online
For access to the heart of the city center, a smart route has been traced on the ground in green, in order to direct cyclists towards streets with less pedestrian traffic. This route has also been marked by dedicated signs.
Also, like every year, street furniture (benches, bicycle racks, trash cans, etc.) is temporarily removed from public spaces to make way for the Christmas market chalets. To compensate for this loss of bicycle parking, new hoops are installed for the duration of the event. This year, temporary parking reinforcements were targeted near the ring.
A map showing the smart route as well as the preferred locations for bicycles is available online at “Getting around by bike | Christmas in Strasbourg”.
