Access road to the Cadiz town flooded with water on January 4
The flooding of the Hozgarganta river has caused the evacuation of 17 families
The residents of the Cádiz municipality of Jimena de la Frontera are without internet service and mobile coverage in some points, a situation that began after the passage of the storm ‘Francis’ through the province of Cádiz, which left abundant rains and flooding in the area due to the flooding of the Hozgarganta river, and which has paralyzed basic services of the City Council.
Municipal sources have confirmed this circumstance to Europa Press, pointing out that although the internet service was recovered for a few hours on Monday, it failed again, causing residents to be unable to communicate with families or friends and the Jimena City Council to be unable to operate normally.
The loss of signal has occurred in several of the companies that supply internet and mobile coverage to the town, which is why a good part of the town is being affected, something that, as these same sources have pointed out, is “common” in the area but has been aggravated due to the storm, which left up to 260 liters per square meter in 24 hours and the evacuation of 17 families due to the flooding of the Hozgarganta river.
The lack of internet in the town is causing complications in card payments in businesses or telematic procedures that are carried out through the City Council website such as register registrations or payment of fees, as well as in the courts, among many others, as has been warned.
Furthermore, the mayor of Jimena, Fran Gómez, is one of those affected by the lack of mobile coverage, being only connected to emergency services through walkies.
This municipality in the Campo de Gibraltar region was one of the most affected by the storm ‘Francis’ last Sunday, becoming cut off by road when the road that connects it to Algeciras was flooded.
Four days later, practically the entire town without coverage and the possibility of communicating with anyone from outside or from the same town, which is why the companies responsible for these services have been asked to undertake the repair quickly in order to recover normality again.
