Stephen Colbert took the Emmys stage following “The Late Show” win for Outstanding Talk Series on Sunday night. His victory was one of the most celebrated of the evening, causing the crowd to erupt into chants of “Stephen.”
“Think of the children,” Colbert joked, nodding to host Nate Bargatze’s donation gimmick.
“I realized that in some ways, we were doing a late night comedy show about loss, and that’s related to love, because sometimes you only truly know how much you love something when you get a sense that you might be losing it,” Colbert said during his speech. “Ten years later, in September of 2025, my friends, I have never loved my country more desperately. God bless America. Stay strong, be brave, and if the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and put to the higher floor.”
Only three shows were nominated for the category this year: Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
More to come …
