Stéphane Roudaut: Brest Mayoral Bid & Gouesnou Exit 2026

After two mandates at the head of Gouesnou, Stéphane Roudaut is looking towards a new horizon. He made the announcement to the citizens of his commune in a letter which began to be sent to mailboxes on Monday, October 13, 2025, and which we obtained. “This decision, carefully considered, is part of the pursuit of new projects, personal, professional and political. I have always lived public life with passion, accepting its constraints as well as its demands. But life is also made of choices, and mine is not to seek a new mandate. I hope you will respect it and understand it,” he insists.

“Mayor until the last day of office”

“I have always sought to be the mayor of all Gouesnousiens,” says the outgoing mayor elected to the highest office in the commune in 2014, at the age of 36. Almost twelve years later, he assures that he will honor the contract of trust established with the residents until his last day in office. “And even a little more, because I will never be very far away,” he slips, a way of saying that it is indeed towards Brest and its metropolis that he now turns his gaze.

Those on both sides of the Kergaradec commercial zone who thought he could still turn back are now convinced. And if it needs to be repeated, he doesn’t hold back. “I will never be far away and will remain at the disposal of the future team, while respecting this place which will be mine in the future: that of former mayor of Gouesnou. Until then, I am actively preparing the conditions so that the next mandate opens with exciting and decisive projects for Gouesnou.”

“Neither failure nor clash”

This formality now completed, the candidacy of the new hope of the Brest right could be made official at the end of the week. In the meantime, his letter also allows Stéphane Roudaut to recall the method he used in Gouesnou. “Two major objectives guided my action: to establish a peaceful debate, carrying values, based on real life, concrete projects within the municipal council, where every sensitivity is respected. I agree that this is not always obvious, but it is ultimately not so common to see in a municipality 98% of deliberations voted unanimously.” But also “continue and adapt public policies to demographic changes as well as to the evolving needs of residents”.

“We have experienced neither failure nor clashes, only delays and frustrations, inevitable in public action. This is closeness, listening to aspirations and dissatisfactions, remaining open and sensitive. This method, if it were more widely shared in France, would undoubtedly make our society a little better,” estimates Stéphane Roudaut, who last July delivered a vast diagnosis of the territory designed as a launching pad towards Brest town hall. The hardest part begins for those who are given 18% voting intentions in a recent Ifop poll commissioned by the Brest Socialist Party.
