For the first time since the transaction that sent him to the Texans of Houston in the spring of 2024, Stefon Diggs will return to Buffalo on Sunday evening, and he expects it very emotional.
Diggs, 31, signed an agreement with the Patriots of New England during the dead season and is now found at a rival of Bills in the East Division of the American Association, a team with which he evolved for four seasons, from 2020 to 2023.
“Obviously for me, it will be very emotional,” said Diggs at Boston.com. “I spent several years there. I can’t wait to see them play. It will certainly be a little emotional. I try to keep my attention on what is important, but it will be the first time that I will come back. It will be an atmosphere. I was one of this team for a long time. I played there before joining the Bills. So I can’t wait. »»
Acquired from the Vikings du Minnesota, with whom he played five seasons, Diggs took part in 66 games with the Bills and formed a formidable duo with the quarterrier Josh Allen, recording 445 receptions for 5372 yards of winnings and 37 affected. Member of the first team of All-Pro stars in 2020, Diggs participated in the Pro Bowl during its four seasons in Buffalo.
Diggs believes that the transaction that made him leave Buffalo was not easy to digest.
“It’s part of the sport, I imagine,” said Diggs, speaking of his exchange in Texas. “Obviously, it was difficult for me. It was a difficult period. I spent several seasons in Buffalo and developed a lot of friendships. It will obviously be difficult and emotional. I can’t wait to go back and review these guys.
“I don’t control anything. I run my race, I free myself and I grab the ball. But on a personal level, obviously I get bored of these guys. You spend a lot of time with people and relationships become more personal than just professional. When I mention that it is part of the sport, it’s just how it works. »»
Diggs only participated in eight games with the Texans in 2024 due to a tear in a previous cross ligament which ended its season last October. He participated in the four preparatory games of the patriots, collecting 19 assists and 213 yards of winnings.
The Pats (2-2) won only three of their last 10 games against the Bills (4-0).
