Steelers’ Pickens: Doubtful for Week 15 Clash with Eagles
The Pittsburgh Steelers are facing a major blow to their receiving core as star wideout George Pickens appears doubtful for their Week 15 showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Pickens, currently leading the team in receptions (55) and receiving yards (850) with three touchdowns, was initially expected to play despite experiencing hamstring discomfort last week. However, the injury proved more severe than initially anticipated.
"A Little More Significant"
"When we got to the stadium, it was evident that maybe the circumstance was maybe a little more significant than we had hoped," head coach Mike Tomlin explained in his Tuesday press conference. "So, we made the prudent decision in terms of shutting him down and not allowing a small problem to become a bigger one."
After the game, an MRI revealed a more significant hamstring injury, forcing the Steelers to prioritize Pickens’ long-term health.
Outside Chance for Week 15
While Tomlin admitted he would likely list Pickens as doubtful for this weekend’s matchup, there’s a slim possibility he could miraculously recover in time.
"There’s a potential for this week, but it’s an outside chance. If you press me, I’d probably say he’s out, or could be characterized as doubtful as we sit here," Tomlin said.
Impact on Steelers Offense
Pickens’ absence would undoubtedly be a significant blow to the Steelers’ offensive attack. The young receiver has developed a strong chemistry with quarterback Kenny Pickett, proving to be a reliable target and a threat downfield.
With the stakes high in their battle for playoff contention, Pittsburgh will need all hands on deck.
