Star Cricketer’s Story: Untold Details

Many players are able to play only a few matches, while some never get a chance to debut. Different stories are often seen in the cricket world. Varun Chakraborty, who recently played a key role in the victory of India’s Champions Trophy 2025, was up his career ups and downs. He talked about his curios in R Ashwin’s YouTube show ‘Kutti Stories with Ash’.

Varun Chakravarthy told the story of his struggles

Actually, the story of India’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy is very interesting. Varun is currently one of the best spinners in India’s white ball cricket. 33 -year -old Varun did his international debut just four years ago. He has worked as an architect, musician, filmmaker and junior artist before achieving success on the cricket field.

Varun revealed in a conversation on YouTube channel by former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin that he initially worked in an architect company. He used to get Rs 600 every day in junior artist. Worked as an assistant architect for one and a half years in an architectural company. “I started with about Rs 14,000 per month, and when I left that job, my salary was around Rs 18,000.”

Start with architects and then try to make a career in music

Varun tried to play guitar for some time and make a career in music. He said that I tried to play more than an hour of guitar and make a career in music. He said, I could not do the guitar practice for more than an hour. In 6-8 months, it was understood that if your aim is to impress only others, then no art will work.

Business started interior design

After leaving music, Varun decided to start his business in interior design and construction. He told that we went well for a year, until the cyclone ‘Wardha’ came, and I lost all my investment. So that too is over. Then I was about 24–25 years old.

Entry in films, when 600 rupees were available every day

When Varun’s business did not run, he went into the film industry with his friends where he tried to become an assistant director. They told,

“Some of my friends were part of the film industry, and I started watching a lot of movies and going to shoot with them, to see what is happening.”

There when a director asked him, do you play cricket? Then he said, only tennis-ball cricket. He was then signed as a junior artist in a film. I used to get ₹ 600 per day, at that time it was enough.

Varun, who played tennis-ball cricket, later focused on his cricket career. He was recognized by mystery spin. He was later bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL. After this, Varun was selected for the T20 World Cup 2021, but he could not do anything special. He was then dropped. He returned to the England series in February. In which he performed brilliantly. He was included in the team in the Champions Trophy, where he played a key role in India’s victory with 9 wickets in the tournament.
