On New Year’s Day 2025, Standish O’Grady passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his beloved wife Margaret and his adored family. His life was marked by devotion, both as a loving husband to Margaret and as a father to Karina, Ger Feeney, Barry, and Stan. This tribute celebrates his memory and honors the countless lives he touched.
Leaving Behind a Rich Legacy
Standish was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Standish, and his siblings, Leo, Eamonn, Brian, and Mary Agnes Scanlan. His deep love for his family is seen in his numerous children and grandchildren. Standish leaves behind a loving tribute from his wife Margaret, his children, and his sister, Eileen Mac Enri. He was also fondly remembered by his daughters-in-law, Pauline and Darina, and son-in-law, Paul.
The family’s joy was immense, having 15 grandchildren—Aurna, Aoife, Ailbhe, Aishlinn, Cathal, Cormac, Aoibheann, Emma, Laura, and Stephen, Cian and Rachel, Téagan, Keelan, and Ódhran, along with great-grandson Jack. Standish’s love and kindness are remembered and cherished by his sisters-in-law, Carmel and Karina, and the extended O’Grady and Elliott families, his lovely neighbors, and his dear friends.
Funeral Arrangements
Standish’s body will repose at the O’Flaherty Funeral Parlour, Munster Avenue (H91V1K8), on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Requiem Mass for Standish will be celebrated on arrival at St. Joseph’s Church, Presentation Road (H91YA30), on Tuesday, January 7 at 11 a.m. It will be a private cremation on Wednesday.
Honoring Stan’s Legacy
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are encouraged to the Galway Hospice Foundation. The foundation provides comfort, palliative care, and support to those facing terminal illness or those in the final days of life. You can contribute online at Galway Hospice Foundation.
