Impressive Lap for Norris: Hamilton, Perez Exit SQ2

As the 10-minute Segment 2 (SQ2) session kicked off at Interlagos, the dark clouds seemed to hint at a challenging run for the drivers. However, one driver stood out in this sprint: Norris. The McLaren driver placed an impressive lap with a time of 1m 09.063s, just over four tenths ahead of nearest competitor Sainz. This lap showcased Norris’ impressive skill and agility on the track.

Vice Versa

Meanwhile, it was a mixed bag for other notable drivers. Firstly, Max Verstappen, who delivered a triumphant purple sector performance that eventually secured him second place. However, despite his personal best in sectors 2 and 3, he couldn’t claim the top spot, slipping into P2 due to the upper hand Norris maintained.

Risky Late Moves

Further down the grid, several drivers found themselves on tenterhooks. Colapinto, Bottas, Bearman, Hulkenberg, and Lawson were at significant risk of being eliminated if they failed to set a strong time. Notably, Hamilton and Perez, who were quite comfortably in positions 10 and 9 respectively, elevated their stakes during the final moments.

Last-Minute Moves

Bearman—substituting for the unwell Kevin Magnussen—made the most of his time, securing fifth place, while Hulkenberg’s late push seemed promising. However, the table turned for Hamilton and Perez. Hamilton’s attempt to move up the order ended with him solidly in 11th, while Perez couldn’t go beyond 13th after a late try.

Aftermath of Squ2

The final tallies reflected several upsetting eliminations. Both Hamilton and Perez were left out in the cold. Likewise, Hulkenberg, Colapinto, and Bottas found themselves in the list of cars out. This SQ2 session underscored the sheer competitiveness of the grid and the importance of strategic and consistent performance.
