Floods and the risk of infection with infectious diseases depend on whether sewage water flows into the reservoirs, because our intestinal tract contains all kinds of pathogens, even the same intestinal rod, which is a normal resident, explained to TV24 the chief doctor of the Latvian Center for Infectious Diseases, professor of Riga Stradins University, Baiba Rozentāle.
Therefore, it is very important to use pre-packaged drinking water that is drunk unboiled. But if water is boiled in a kettle and it bubbles, then “everything is there – all bacteria and viruses”, explained B. Rozentāle.
The professor also reminded that people continue to travel despite the geopolitical situation, but hemorrhagic fever, Dengue or tropical fever and Chikungunya virus are found here, but they are not local to Latvia, but imported cases. Last year, there were four cases of Dengue fever in Latvia, and fortunately, all of them were cured, said B. Rozentāle.
